Caribbean Cacao Cocoa Butter Review

I had bought shea butter and mango butter from Better Shea Butter and decided that I should get some cocoa butter as well. I have a love-hate relationship with cocoa butter. It's hard, which is great in the summer, but really makes body butters hard to use in the summer. It smells like chocolate, which I personally love and it makes me want to eat it, but I know that some people don't like slathering chocolate smelling butter on themselves.

Instead of buying cocoa butter from Better Shea Butter, I decided to see what other companies were out there and I found Caribbean Cocoa on Amazon. With high ratings and over 2,000, I figured I should try it.

Ingredients
This is 100% cocoa butter from the Dominican Republic. I have no idea how it was extracted or if it was refined. I prefer minimal processing to occur to the plant butters and oils that I buy, unless when necessary, such as hexane-free almond oil. Below is the fatty acid composition found for cocoa butter in a few countries around the world.

Stats about Cocoa Butter
Cocoa butter has a comedogenic rating of 4 out of 5, meaning that many people will break out if they use if on their face. Some people believe that comedogenic ratings don't mean much at all: Colin's Beauty Pages and Babe + Beauty. I intended to use it on my feet and body in the winter when it was super dry, so I wasn't worried. The shelf life is about 2-3 years when stored in a cool, dark place. I keep my oils and butters in the fridge. Be warned, cocoa butter is a hard butter and putting it in the fridge makes it even harder.

Uses
Cocoa butter is great for dry, chapped skin. It's supposed to be good for stretch marks. Some people also use it sparingly on their face. I am not one of those people. You can also make chocolate with cocoa butter as well. Here's a super easy recipe to try using butter and here's a vegan recipe that only requires 3 ingredients.

Smell and Texture
Surprise! It smells a bit like chocolate, so it can't be that refined. I love the smell of it. It's hard in winter and in summer, so you will probably need to mix it with a softer butter or an oil in order to make body butter.

Size, Price, and Packaging
I bought 1lb and it was priced pretty well. It came in a plastic zip bag that I will re-use after I'm done with it. There's no other plastic film anything inside the bag. They had an expiration date on the back of the bag.

Would I Get This Again?
No. I like this cocoa butter. I think it's fantastic, but I can't find out anything about the company. I don't know how ethical they are or where they are located. I can't even find a website for them. Also, there's little information about the cocoa butter itself, such as whether it's refined or unrefined. I will be sticking with Better Shea Butter and I also want to try the butters from Fair Tale Ghana. Both of them have websites and are transparent about their company and its products.
