You know that starry eyed look that some people get when you mention that something is European? When I hear that something comes from Europe, I figure I can't afford it. I had never heard of Florihana until I joined some non-MLM essential
oil Facebook groups.
Once I heard that they were from France and had been in business for a while, I didn't even both looking at their website. I figured their products would be way too expensive. Their name kept on popping up and people said they offered free FedEx shipping from France on orders $100 and up. Spending $100 at once on essential oils and hydrosols was out of my budget.

However, I then found out that Tropical Traditions aka Healthy Traditions is an approved dealer for Florihana essential oils
(you can email Florihana to confirm) and they offer free shipping with
orders of $39 or more. They also offer free shipping once a month (so
stalk their FB page), with $20 being the minimum order. And. . . they'll
offer you free ground shipping on your first order
with the discount code of FS10.
I figured I could buy $39 worth of
essential oils or find some other products to add to my cart to get free
shipping. In the end, I ended up paying for shipping because I didn't see anything else that I really needed.
Now
if you do order from Tropical Traditions, keep in mind that they do not
offer the full selection of products available directly from Florihana;
they just have essential oils. That was fine with me. I don't use hydrosol much anyways.

Unlike Edens Garden and Plant Therapy (Use this link to get $10 off), Florihana does not have a line for kids. Lemongrass is safe for kids. You can find a lot of information as well as documentation directly on Florihana's website. As with most (maybe all?) of the products from Florihana, this is an organic product.
Lemongrass can relieve pain, kill bacteria, and ward off insects similar to citronella. It is also good for positive moods. It's a thin oil.
I have a couple of complaints about their packaging. First is that their essential oils come with a blue-ish, teal colored child-proof cap. Now, this is one thing that many people hate. While I understand their concern about the safety of essential oils, many people have difficulty opening the bottles. I'm not old, nor do I have arthritis or anything that would prevent me from opening child-proof caps, however, it usually takes me a few minutes and a lot of swearing and turning the bottle this way and that to open it. Needless to say, I don't use their oils as much as I should. This can be easily remedied by decanting the oil into an empty essential oil.
Another issue I have is that they don't have a label on the top of the oil. This means that you either have to buy bottle cap stickers or make your own. I know it's a wholesale company so that might be why. I personally make my own stickers. They don't look pretty, but they do the job.
Florihana is very meticulous about packaging. The child-proof cap is one example. Then the bottle is then placed inside a metal container to further keep it safe from getting bumped or broken along the way. Many people love these containers and use them to organize small things, such as hair ties, paperclips, essential oil caps, or what-have-you.
Make sure to follow proper dilution guidelines. Click on the button that says "download dilution chart". Do not use undiluted. Patch test before using. Check the max dilution on the label. If pregnant, nursing, or under a doctor's care, please contact your caregiver first. Do not use internally unless directed by a licensed aromatherapist or physician. Follow safe essential oil usage; not all people or pets should be exposed to essential oils.

Smell, Use, and Viscosity
I honestly have a difficult time telling the difference between lemon and lemongrass. I know that some people say that they smell so different, but smell is such a personal thing. This smells very much like freshly sliced lemons, but it's got a green note to it. It's got a sharp, tangy smell to it as well. It is definitely not a sweet smelling lemon candy. My daughter loves lemon and I know that you should not use the same essential oil for a long period of time since that can lead to sensitization. I try to rotate between lemon and other citruses. In my opinion, lemongrass smells so much like lemon that when she asks for lemon too many times in a row, I will just substitute lemongrass.Lemongrass can relieve pain, kill bacteria, and ward off insects similar to citronella. It is also good for positive moods. It's a thin oil.
Size, Price, and Packaging
I got a 15gr bottle and it is very, very affordable. They sell their essential oils by weight instead of
volume. What exactly does this mean? It means you get more oil for your
money. This is absolutely amazing. They have a Facebook note that
explains why weight is better than volume for the customer.
Reading this was eye opening and made me a little upset if what they
say is true. They say that essential oil companies purchase oils in
kilograms, then turn around and sell them by volume therefore, making a
hefty profile. Their example was lemon (my daughter's favorite!). 1 kilo
will fill 67 bottles of 15 gr each or 78 bottles of 15 ml each. That
means companies that buy in weight and sell by volume are filling on
average, 11 bottles more. Pretty darn sneaky! Here's another article
from a skincare website talking about why you should use weight to measure essential oils. I have a couple of complaints about their packaging. Would I Get This Again?
Yes, I probably would. I like the company very much and I like the fact that this smells like tangy lemons. The two problems I have is the lack of bottle cap stickers on the top and the child-proof cap. You can buy it here.
