My Thoughts on Florihana

I had never heard of Florihana until I joined some non-MLM essential oil Facebook groups. Once I heard that they were from France and had been in business for a while, I didn't even both looking at their website. I figured their products would be way too expensive. Their name kept on popping up and people said they offered free FedEx shipping from France on orders $100 and up. Spending $100 at once on essential oils and hydrosols was out of my budget.

However, I then found out that Tropical Traditions aka Healthy Traditions is an approved dealer for Florihana essential oils (you can email Florihana to confirm) and they offer free shipping with orders of $39 or more. They also offer free shipping once a month (so stalk their FB page), with $20 being the minimum order. And. . . they'll offer you free ground shipping on your first order with the discount code of FS10. I figured I could buy $39 worth of essential oils or find some other products to add to my cart to get free shipping. In the end, I ended up paying for shipping. They didn't offer free ground shipping on your first order when I ordered, but happily they do now! I got a few essential oils and some coconut oil for hair.

Now if you do order from Tropical Traditions, keep in mind that they do not offer the full selection of products available directly from Florihana; they just have essential oils. Below I will talk more about the products available directly from Florihana.

Well-known in Europe, they are virtually unknown in the USA. Their Facebook page has less than 2000 likes. Compared to larger essential oil companies that have hundreds of thousands, Florihana seems much more discreet, almost posh, calm, and collected. Located in the heart of the French Rivera, in Provence, Florihana has been distilling their own oils for over 20 years and their own hydrosols/hydrolats for over 10 years. Their production site is located in two co-friendly wooden buildings. Their organic farm is 25 acres. I haven't been able to find when they started, but I messaged them and asked. I will update this if they get back to me. They have developed a very innovative distillation process called flash detente, which is unique to their company in their world of aromatherapy.

Free FedEx shipping for orders over $100 is one thing that stood out to me. The other was that they  sell their essential oils by weight instead of volume. What exactly does this mean? It means you get more oil for your money. This is absolutely amazing. They have a Facebook note that explains why weight is better than volume for the customer. Reading this was eye opening and made me a little upset if what they say is true. They say that essential oil companies purchase oils in kilograms, then turn around and sell them by volume therefore, making a hefty profile. Their example was lemon (my daughter's favorite!). 1 kilo will fill 67 bottles of 15 gr each or 78 bottles of 15 ml each. That means companies that buy in weight and sell by volume are filling on average, 11 bottles more. Pretty darn sneaky! Here's another article from a skincare website talking about why you should use weight to measure essential oils.

Customer Service
I haven't had any interaction with their customer service, but they are semi-active on Facebook.

Affordable Prices
Their prices are really pretty good. They have absolutes, essential oils, vegetable oils, mother tinctures, gemmotherapy, organic cosmetics, hydrosols/hydrolats, macerated oils, synergies, and aromatic plants. I'm not so sure the plants would ship to the USA though.

They have over 100 essential oils and over 25 hydrosols. Tons and tons! Iv'e been told their hydrosols are amazing! Unfortunately, I don't really use hydrosols that much. I've found some information on what you can use hydrosols for from DIY Naturals and Growing Up Herbal, but have yet to venture into them other than using them as toners. Eventually I will get there though.

Their essential oils come with a blue-ish, teal colored child-proof cap. Now, this is one thing that many people hate. While I understand their concern about the safety of essential oils, many people have difficulty opening the bottles. I'm not old, nor do I have arthritis or anything that would prevent me from opening child-proof caps, however, it usually takes me a few minutes and a lot of swearing and turning the bottle this way and that to open it. Needless to say, I don't use their oils as much as I should. This can be easily remedied by decanting the oil into an empty essential oil. The bottle is then placed inside a metal container to further keep it safe from getting bumped or broken along the way. Many people love these containers and use them to organize small things, such as hair ties, paperclips, essential oil caps, or what-have-you.

Ethics
They are very concerned about the environment. The majority of their products are certified organic. They hold a number of certifications such as CEE by Ecocert and NOP-JAS by Control Union BV.  They also have GCMS, MSDS, IFRA, and allergen certifications available on their product pages.

They use laser engraving to put their name below the label on the bottle itself so that you can ensure that you are buying an original.

I have not been able to find much more information about them. I will say that their website needs a bit of work as far as what you can see under the Florihana section. Words and photos overlap each other. I wish they would have an About or History section. However, they do have all these symbols about their commitment to quality, which I think is fantastic!

    Discount Codes and Sales
I do not know of any sales or discount codes from them, but my guess is that they would have some around the end of the year. Check out their Facebook page for more info. I write about all the sales and deals that I know of. Here is the label for all the past sales and deals. You can also find a list at the bottom of this post.
