Plant Therapy Massoia Bark Essential Oil Review

This was January 2018's OOTM (oil of the month). I'm not in the OOTM Club, but was able to buy it from a Facebook group. I joined a handful of BST (buy / sell / trade) groups for non-MLM essential oils. Here are some good Facebook groups to buy, sell, and trade non-MLM essential oils. Let me tell you, it's addicting and easy to get carried away. The thing you have to remember is that while somethings may seem like they're a good deal, you often have to pay for shipping and that can be an extra $3.50 or so.

About Plant Therapy: On my page about Plant Therapy, you can read more about their company and read my product reviews. I have reviewed other companies and their products as well and you can find those on my complete list.

Buying Direct vs BST Groups
Many companies like Edens Garden and Plant Therapy offer free shipping plus they have loyalty programs, so it might be better to buy direct. With that being said, you can find some good deals and if you're looking to trade oils, these groups can be amazing. Massoia Bark is not available for purchase on Plant Therapy's website just yet. So if you didn't get it from the OOTM Club, you can't just buy it direct from them. However, you might still be able to get it. Join some of the Facebook groups for buying, selling, and trading essential oils. Also, try waiting. About half of the oil of the month from 2017 are now available on PT's website.

Product Details
You can't buy this from their site. Hopefully they will make it a part of their permanent collection. Like Edens Garden's OK for Kids, Plant Therapy has a line for kids. This product is NOT a part of this line. Massoia bark is prohibited by the IFRA (International Fragrance Association) due to dermal toxicity; it may cause severe skin irritation. This oil is for diffusion or to be used in a personal inhaler only!

Smell, Use, and Viscosity
The label says,
Massoia Bark has a sweet, fruity, slightly woodsy aroma that is most opoular for diffusion due to its pleasant scent. Promotes calming and relaxation. Diffuse to help support a healthy respiratory system. Not for topical application.
Caution: Do not use on skin. Keep out of reach of children. If pregnant or under doctor's care, consult your physician.
I was told that it smells like coconut and like a tropical island. I can smell the coconut part of it. It also smells a bit nutty to me. I don't think it's that strong. It smells a bit dry to me. Kind of like dry wine smells.

It's supposed to help you calm down and relax. Think of diffusing it as taking a mini-vacation. Tropical island, coconuts, sandy beaches, and fun in the sun. Since it's supposed to have a tropical smell, it blends well with a variety of oils. It's pretty thin so be careful not to use more than you planned on using.

Size, Price, and Packaging
I got a 5ml bottle and based on what you pay for OOTM Club. If you subscribe, it's $15. If you want to just buy an oil for that month, you pay $20. Some months people get two 10ml oils, other months they get 30ml oils. But this month, it was 5ml of Massoia Bark. Hopefully they will make it available to buy on their website. If that happens, you can use this link to get $10 off!

The packaging is standard. It comes with an orifice reducer or Euro dropper. The oil is thin so it can come out quickly, but the orifice isn't too large that the oil just runs out.

Would I Get This Again?
Yes, I would get this again. The only thing is that it's not safe for kids and can NOT be used topically.

Random Thoughts
I really like this oil. I hope they make it a part of their permanent collection. I've said that pink grapefruit is my favorite single oil, but Massoia Bark definitely is one of my top oils.

Safety
The shelf life is about 1-2 years. I keep all mine in the fridge to help extend their shelf-life.

Do not apply topically; may cause skin irritation. Massoia bark is prohibited by the IFRA (International Fragrance Association) due to dermal toxicity; it may cause severe skin irritation. Tisserand offers some guidelines about topical use and it's at 0.01%. Here are a couple of other links about it:
I encourage you to do your own research. Plant Therapy says that you can diffuse it or use it in a personal inhaler. I diffuse it, though I know that not everyone would be comfortable doing this. Make sure you are careful when adding it to your diffuser and that your diffuser doesn't spray it on you.

If pregnant, nursing, or under a doctor's care, please contact your caregiver first. Do not use internally unless directed by a licensed aromatherapist or physician. Follow safe essential oil usage; not all people or pets should be exposed to essential oils.
