Shea Moisture Raw Shea Chamomile and Argan Oil Baby Head-To-Toe Wash and Shampoo Review

A few years ago when I started using Shea Moisture, I really loved the company. I liked their ingredients, their story, and how they gave back to the community. While their products didn't really work with my hair, I knew I wanted to use something healthy with the new baby.

About Shea Moisture: On my page about Shea Moisture, you can read more about their company and read my product reviews. I have reviewed other companies and their products as well and you can find those on my complete list.

My little store didn't have a wide variety of choices: it was basically The Honest Company (you can read my review about them and their bubble bath) or Shea Moisture. The choice was easy: I'd buy Shea Moisture's stuff. I bought this one because I knew that myrrh, frankincense, and chamomile were safe herbs and essential oils for babies (although some people say you should wait until 6 months to use essential oils). Make sure you follow safe essential oil usage; not all people or pets should be exposed to essential oils.

Waiting was fine with me. My daughter was born in the middle of winter, our bathroom was not heated, and putting a slippery baby in a bath and then pulling them out into the cold air did not sound like fun. I waited a few weeks before she got her first bath. Then after that it was maybe once a week unless she had explosive poop. Thankfully she preferred projectile vomiting over explosive poop and we learned to aim her over the sink.

Ingredients
This has some pretty good stuff like aloe vera, coconut oil, shea butter, argan oil, essential oils, and extracts. I normally do not like coconut oil on my skin or hair. It seems to produce a drying affect for me, however, this did not seem to be true for the baby.

I have two issues with the label and the first is the mystery behind the essential oil blend. I really wish companies would get in the habit of listing exactly which essential oils, absolutes, oleoresins, or extracts they used. People have allergies or don't like certain scents. I know that scent is proprietary, however, they really need to think of people's needs.

The second is mislabeling ingredients. Take Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, for example. They state that it's coconut oil. It's not. It can be derived from coconut oil, but that's not the same thing.

Smell and Texture
This doesn't have a strong scent at all. It smells sweet and is calming. It's thick like a normal body wash.

Size, Price, and Packaging
I got the 13oz bottle. It was priced pretty fairly. It's in a bottle with a press-top. I wish it had a pump since right now you need two hands to get the soap out. Let's face it, with a squirming baby in the bath, you often need extra hands.

Would I Get This Again?
Maybe. I'm on the fence about how Shea Moisture claims that no ingredients have changed. Perhaps the ingredients are the same but the sources are different. I'm not sure. If you're interested, you can buy it here or from Naturally Curly.
