Zakia's Morocco Only Pure Organic Argan Oil Review

I had heard how amazing argan oil was and that many products were using it as an ingredient. I thought it would be better to just buy the oil itself and try that. I found this on Amazon and didn't really know much about the company when I asked for it for a Christmas present.

About Zakia's Morocco: On my page about Zakia's Morocco, you can read more about their company and see all my product reviews. I have reviewed other companies and their products as well and you can find those on my complete list.

Stats about Argan Oil
Argan oil has a comedogenic rating of 0 out of 5. Meaning that it will not clog pores. Some people believe that comedogenic ratings don't mean much at all: Colin's Beauty Pages and Babe + Beauty. The shelf life of argan oil is up to 2 years. Oils last longer away from heat and light, so store in a dark cabinet.

Smell and Texture
It is fragrance-free and when I first got it, I didn't think anything of it, but now knowing what I do, it makes me think that something is up. Usually unrefined, pure argan oil should have a distinct nutty smell. I messaged them and they said it was unrefined. I didn't believe them so found something called the Ice Test and tested it.

The Ice Test: Is it 100% Real Argan Oil?
Some people say the ice test (Ice Sensed Fridge Test) can tell you whether or not it is real. I found out about it from Lipid Love: Home of the Real Oils on Facebook.

Honestly, I had my doubts about this. I put this in the fridge before I went to bed at night and in the morning when I woke up, I checked on it and it had started to get thicker. When I came back from work in the evening, I checked on it again it it looked like paste. I decided to leave it one more night, since they say 24-48 hours. The photo on the right was taken about 36 hours after I had stuck it in the fridge.

This passed the ice test. Once you take it out of the fridge, it quickly returns to its liquid state. It happened within minutes and it's pretty neat to see it go from a paste back to a liquid when you take it out of the fridge.

If you have argan oil and you're not sure if it's real or not, try the ice test and see what happens!

Ingredients
I had heard great things about the kessa glove and black soap from Venusian Glow and decided that I wanted to try it out. Since I had also heard about argan oil, I looked online and found a gift set with all three. Unfortunately, Zakia's Morocco doesn't offer it anymore, but it had the argan oil, kessa exfoliating glove, and Moroccan black soap.

Moroccan black soap: I didn't like the black soap at all. There was something in it that gave me a rash. I tried it a few times and gave it away. The soap only has olive oil, macerated oils, argan oil, and potassium hydroxide. The last ingredient is lye or KOH and it should not be left in soap after saponification. Now, I'm not sure if somehow some was left over or for some reason, my skin just did not like that combination of ingredients. I've never had issues with olive oil or argan oil before.

Kessa exfoliating glove: The mitt is great. I still have it and wash it regularly. I don't find that it gets off a ton of skin, but usually one of my kids is standing at the door mommying me while I'm taking a shower or has woken up and is screaming their head off.

Argan oil: It says it's 100% argan oil and that's all that in the bottle. Below is the fatty acid composition of argan oil.

Size, Price, and Packaging
It is decently priced for 50ml, however, I don't really like the packaging. I do like that it's in glass since I prefer glass over plastic. I also like that it's a square, sturdy, squat bottle. I feel like taller, thinner bottles are more likely to get knocked over.

There are two things that I don't like and first of all it's the fact that it's a clear bottle. I would rather it be in a dark colored bottle to keep out the light. Another thing is that I would prefer for it to have less contact with the air. I know that it's not as bad as a dropper bottle, but I would have preferred a pump, flip-top, or airless container.

Organic
Based out of Europe, they use Ecocertification and all her argan oil, shea butter, and ghassoul clay is sourced from Eco-certified manufacturers, however, they do not mention whether they themselves are certified. I know that sounds odd, but if you buy in bulk and then decant the oil to sell, some countries (like the USA, per the AMS regulations) might not allow you to call what you sell organic unless you hold an organic certification. Most of her stockist are in the USA.

Would I Get This Again?
In all honesty, I would not get this again. I want to get cold-pressed, unrefined argan oil and the method of extraction is not mentioned nor is the level of refinement.  However, everyone is different. If you'd like to try it you can buy it here.
