Plant Therapy A+ Attention KidSafe Essential Oil Synergy Blend Review

I knew that I wanted to use essential oils with my kids and Plant Therapy takes the guesswork out of what's safe and what's not safe since they have a KidSafe line. I got this oil as part of a set with the AromaFuse Diffuser, but you can buy it separately. They have an organic version and a roller ball version as well. Since this does have citrus oils in it, I wish I would have bought the organic version. You can read more about organic vs. non-organic essential oils in this post.

Smell, Use, and Viscosity
This has six ingredients: petitgrain, bergamot, cedarwood atlas (aka cedarwood atlantica), grapefruit pink, lavender, and vetiver. Half of them are citrus and I usually like citrus oils. However, I don't really like bergamot and I'm not sure what petitgrain smells like.

  1. I've never tried petitgrain. It's supposed to be woodsy with a bit of a floral smell to it. I'm not really a fan of woodsy, earthy smells. Its scent is uplifting and energizing. Topically, it can help with blemishes and oily skin. It can also help with stomachaches.
  2. I tolerate bergamot. It's a citrus so I thought I would love it, but it's a bit too spicy and sharp for my taste. It's been said to boost your mind and help you during times of sadness. Topically, it can help with oily skin, and muscle pain and tension.
  3. I thought I would love cedarwood atlas. I love the smell of cedar chests and thought cedarwood would make me nostalgic and feel grounded. They say it has a rich wood, spicy aroma, like cedar chests. Nope, not the case. I had the chance to smell cedar and to me it simply smelled like a musty, old basement. It can help the respiratory system, positive thoughts, and to set a romantic mood. Topically, it can help with dandruff.
  4. I love the smell of one of them: grapefruit pink, which is my all-time favorite single essential oil. I'm glad they specified which grapefruit it is. There are three: ruby red, pink, and white.  It's supposed to help with mental fatigue and moodiness. Topically, it can be helpful with blemishes and oily skin. It can be used as a natural toner.
  5. Florals can be ok, but some of them, like lavender I hate with a passion; it reminds me of old ladies. Lavender seems to be a basic first oil that people buy. It's supposed to smell sweet and appealing, to entice you to relax and go to sleep. A favorite for many people, but not me.
  6. Vetiver was one of the first oils I tried. I hated it. I was told it's supposed to be relaxing, support your immune system, and be grounding. For me, it was like lavender, an oil that many people like but I simply don't. Topically, it can help with blemishes.

With only one ingredient that I loved, three that I hated, one that I never tried, and one that was so-so, the odds were stacked against this oil. It's supposed to smell clean, herbal and have a sweet, woody undertone to it. That's not what I get. I get musty basement and that dry distinct smell of a library with old newspapers and books. Now, to be fair, I didn't buy this for me; I bought it for my daughter. Unfortunately for me, she hates it. She has a very strong sense of smell. She smelled this, coughed, gagged, her eyes watered, and she told me it smelled like donkey poop. Quite the description, isn't it? With some oils that she doesn't like, since I use them at night, I simply diffuse them when she's asleep. However, this one doesn't quite work like that. She'd have to be awake while I was diffusing it and if she hates the smell of it, she's not going to be able to pay attention and concentrate.

I've decided to keep it for now though. I like what it's supposed to do and that's to help kids concentrate. My second daughter will be 2 soon and then I can see if it works on her. I've also thought about diffusing it when I have to get work done since with the internet, it's so easy to get distracted. I hate the smell as well. I really should try it once a week or something. Right now it's just not getting used. Due to the ingredients, I thought it would be thicker than it actually is. It is pretty thin, but it's not going to run out of the bottle.

Size, Price, and Packaging
I got a 10ml bottle and it is priced pretty fairly. As I mentioned before, I got this as part of a set with the AromaFuse Diffuser, but you can also buy it here or from Plant Therapy and get $10 off. They have an organic version and a roller ball version as well. Since this does have citrus oils in it, I wish I would have bought the organic version.

The packaging is standard. It comes with an orifice reducer or Euro dropper. The oil is thin so it can come out quickly, but the orifice isn't too large that the oil just runs out.

Would I Get This Again?
No, I wouldn't. My daughter really doesn't like the smell of it. I know that it's supposed to help kids pay attention, but she can't pay attention because she hates it so much that she's plugging her nose. I will continue to use it and just use less of it.  However, everyone is different. If you're interested, you can buy it here or from Plant Therapy and get $10 off. They have an organic version and a roller ball version as well.
