Redmond Earthpaste 4 Pack (Lemon, Wintergreen, Cinnamon, Peppermint) Review

Earthpaste, has an interesting ring to it. Basically, it's clay with a few other ingredients. Doesn't taste fantastic and it doesn't lather either like regular toothpaste. I came upon it after spending lots of time researching and it seemed like a good product. I do have a few questions about it though and I'll talk about those later on.

There's a lot of junk in toothpaste that I was trying to avoid. I feel like I have better things to do with my life than find a good toothpaste. I found Redmond Earthpaste and found good reviews and was so sick of looking for toothpaste that I got it. Since I was on a MooGoo kick and loved their company and their products, I decided to get their toothpaste as well. You can read my review here. Here are the ingredients I was trying to avoid.

The first few times I used it, it was fantastic. My mouth felt super clean right afterwards and then even in the morning. After a while though, it didn't feel as clean as it used to. I'm not sure what happened, but it didn't work the same way as before.

Ingredients
The ingredient list is rather short, however, I have a few issues with it. However, let's talk about the good before the bad. Their ingredients are non-GMO and OMRI certified (for the ones that aren't considered living). The second good thing is that all the ingredients are recognizable. Now on to the bad parts.

First off, they're not using the the INCI labeling standards. They have recently cracked down, so hopefully they will change their labeling. Right now they're just using the vernacular (common) name. Secondly, the first ingredient is water. Labels are supposed to have the greatest amount to the least amount of ingredients. If water is the greatest amount, then it needs a preservative, which they don't have. Now, some people may say that salt and essential oils can function as preservatives. While it's true that they can aid a preservative system, they cannot function as a stand-alone system. The third issue that I have is that is has essential oils, but no emulsifiers. How are the essential oils being dispersed in water when water and oil don't mix? The fourth issue seems to be the most concerning to people and that's the Prop 65 Warning, which states that there is lead in the product. This is due to the clay. They address this issue on their website and you can read more about it here.

Smell and Texture
You know clay masks that you put on your face? That's what this is like. A dark, muddy brown color. It smells like the flavor used, so peppermint smells like peppermint. It doesn't foam at all and it's very thin. When you spit it out, it looks like you're spitting out thin dirt.

Size, Price, and Packaging
I got the four pack and gave the wintergreen to a friend, the lemon to my daughter, and kept the other two for myself. I used most of the peppermint and about half the cinnamon before I started looking into the ingredients more. It's priced pretty fairly for natural toothpastes. Each tube is 4oz. The hole that the toothpaste comes out of is much smaller than regular toothpastes.

Would I Get This Again?
No, although lead is an issue for some people, what worries me is the lack of preservation system and the lack of emulsifiers used. I think it's a great idea, but I really don't think it's safe. Lots of people swear by it and say it's fantastic. You can read their reviews here.

Random Thoughts
Patch test before using. Really research the ingredients.
