Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Shea Butter Soap Review

This soap popped up at my local store. They don't really have a lot of clean beauty products, after quickly looking over the ingredients, I snapped this up. Wren I get soaps, I usually let them sit for a couple weeks to cure even longer. I have no idea how long it had been cured and usually the longer it cures, the longer it will last, meaning I save money.

Since I don't have a lot of space in my shower, I cut off a piece of the soap to use and put the rest away. This also helps the bar last longer since it's not exposed to water.

This is no longer available on the Shea Moisture website, however, you can find it on Amazon. Thank goodness for Amazon, it's amazing what you can find on it.

Ingredients
This is what's listed on the package.

Coconut Oil*, Coconut Milk, Papaya Enzymes, Vanilla Beans, Shea Butter, *Cocoa Butter, *Vegetable Glycerin, Songyi Mushroom Extract, Vitamin E, Hibiscus Sabdariffa Flower, Soaps of Coconut & Palm.

*Certified Organic Ingredients

Honestly, it looks pretty good until you get to the end. Some of the ingredients are organic and I can recognise what most of them are. I know that palm oil is an issue for some people, but Shea Moisture states that they are part of the RSPO. But what exactly is soaps of coconut & palm? It looks like they're adding a soap to a soap, but you don't know what's in the first soap.

Smell and Texture
This has a subtle earthy vanilla smell. I'm guessing the earthiness comes from the mushroom extract. I can't really smell coconut, but they don't say whether or not the coconut oil is refined or unrefined. It's got a rich white lather.

Size, Price, and Packaging
This comes in an 8oz size and that's about double the size of soap that you'd get from smaller artisanal companies. It's pretty affordable as well. You're paying about the same as what you'd pay for a 4oz bar of soap.

They use plastic packaging, which is something I wish companies would move away from.

Would I Get This Again?
No. First of all, I don't really like coconut oil on my body. I find it to be drying. Secondly, the last ingredient on the ingredient list just seems odd to me. Lastly, I don't like the plastic packaging. I know that everyone is different though. This is a very affordable natural soap. If you think it would be something that you would like to try, you can buy it here.
