Popular essential oils such as lavender and tea tree oil are commonly known, but as you get into essential oils more and more, you learn about one you had never heard of. One of the reasons that I love AVAT is that they offer sample sizes. I try to mainly buy oils that are safe for kids. Unfortunately, AVAT doesn't say which ones are safe for kids so I go back and forth between their website, Edens Garden, and Plant Therapy. It's a bit of a pain, but AVAT's oils have tested pure and the price is right, so it's worth it. I had never heard of plai before and decided to get it because it is supposed to help with respiratory issues, plus it has a really cool name. Maybe not the best of reasons, but when most samples are less than $1, I decided to go ahead and get it since in order to get free shipping from AVAT, you need to spend
$35.
Shipping was going to be about $10. I'd rather pay to get stuff than pay
for shipping.

Unlike Edens Garden and Plant Therapy (Use this link to get $10 off), AVAT does not have a line for kids. Plai is safe for kids. Wild-crafted and steam-distilled, this oil comes from Thailand.
Usually AVAT has very limited information on its oils, but they have a surprising amount of information about plai. When used topically, it is said to help with aches and pains and is popular amongst aromatherapists. Its pain-relieving properties couples with anti-inflammation properties make it a great choice for both children and adults. It can also help with fighting infections, digestive issues, stress, and respiratory problems. When used in skincare, it can help fight acne and ward of insects. Since it is safe for kids, it's a great alternative to eucalyptus and you can diffuse this or create a chest rub.
This is a yellow, thin oil, however, I often have to tap the bottom of the bottle in order to get drops
out. I got the sample size. If you create an account, you will have
access to more sizes. All their milliliter sizes have orifice reducers;
their ounces sizes do not. If you're going to buy the ounce bottles,
you'll probably want to either use a pipette or decant into smaller
bottles. I forgot I had one bottle that was an ounce size and ended up
dumping a lot of spearmint into my diffuser. My entire house smelled
like toothpaste for a week.
Their samples come in bottles with a narrow mouth and screw off top. I like these sample bottles so much better than the wands that I always seem to knock over and spill. The oil is thin, but the orifice is small, so you might have to tap the bottle or shake it a bit to get drops out.
One complaint I have about their packaging in general, is that they don't have a label on the top of the oil. This means that you either have to buy bottle cap stickers or make your own. I know it's a wholesale company so that might be why. I personally make my own stickers. They don't look pretty, but they do the job.
Make sure to follow proper dilution guidelines. Click on the button that says "download dilution chart". Do not use undiluted. Patch test before using. Check the max dilution on the label. If pregnant, nursing, or under a doctor's care, please contact your caregiver first. Do not use internally unless directed by a licensed aromatherapist or physician. Follow safe essential oil usage; not all people or pets should be exposed to essential oils.

Smell, Use, and Viscosity
People have said this smells similar to ginger, eucalyptus, tea tree oil, and sweet marjoram. I like ginger, but the other oils I don't really like. I'll be honest, it smells a bit like dirt to me. It's got an earthy smell, but it's not unpleasant, but it's not an oil that I would want to diffuse solely based on smell. Usually AVAT has very limited information on its oils, but they have a surprising amount of information about plai. When used topically, it is said to help with aches and pains and is popular amongst aromatherapists. Its pain-relieving properties couples with anti-inflammation properties make it a great choice for both children and adults. Size, Price, and Packaging
I got a sample size. I love that AVAT has samples so that you can try before you buy. There are so many essential oils out there that it's easy to spend a lot of money on things you might not like. Being able to buy samples may be more expensive ml for ml, but in the long run, you will save money. Their prices are very, very affordable. So much so, that had I not been recommended this company in Real Aromatherapy Reviews and More 2.0,
I would have thought it was fake. They do have GCMS reports, but they
are done in house. They also don't offer dates on distillation or GCMS
testing, however, John the owner has been in business for a while and
developed a good reputation. With that being said, there are some people
who don't buy AVAT oils because of it. Some well-respected companies
such as Original Swiss Aromatics, Apothecary's Garden, and Snow Lotus Aromatics don't even offer GCMS reports. Their samples come in bottles with a narrow mouth and screw off top. I like these sample bottles so much better than the wands that I always seem to knock over and spill. The oil is thin, but the orifice is small, so you might have to tap the bottle or shake it a bit to get drops out.

Would I Get This Again?
Yes. Although I don't really like the smell, I can tolerant it. I like the fact that it's a safe alternative to eucalyptus and can be used for a variety of problems. I like the company very much as well. You can buy it here.
