Appalachian Valley Natural Products Organic Carrot Seed Essential Oil Review

I feel somewhat limited by the essential oils that I buy since the majority of the ones that I have are safe for kids. I debated getting some that weren't safe and finally decided to go ahead and buy them and just be very careful using them. I figured I could either diffuse them at night while I was working on the other side of the house and the kids were sleeping or use them in skincare and body care. In order to get free shipping from AVAT, you need to spend $35, so I added a few things that were not safe for kids. Shipping was going to be about $10. I'd rather pay to get stuff than pay for shipping.

Smell, Use, and Viscosity
Carrot seed is one of those oils that people either love or hate. They say it has a very distinct earthy smell. It smells a bit musty to me, like a basement. It reminds me of dirt after spring rains. It smells vaguely like carrots when they're cooked. I like the smell of it and don't mind using it in products that I use on my face.

AVAT was originally a wholesaler and I believe that's one reason why they barely have any information about their oils; they assume people already know about them.

I do not like that they mention it can be used in the food flavor trade. I realise that there are professionally trained people who do take essential oils internally or tell people to do so, but they are highly trained and the products are regulated. I don't want people to get the idea that they can just use essential oils to flavor their food like they could with extracts like vanilla or almond. Extracts that are meant to be taken internally.

It's used for skin conditions and to reduce scarring. When diffused it can help people cope with stress and relax, however, I believe that it is more well-known for it's topical attributes.

It's yellow and is a thin oil, however, I often have to tap the bottom of the bottle in order to get drops out. I got the sample size. If you create an account, you will have access to more sizes. All their milliliter sizes have orifice reducers; their ounces sizes do not. If you're going to buy the ounce bottles, you'll probably want to either use a pipette or decant into smaller bottles. I forgot I had one bottle that was an ounce size and ended up dumping a lot of spearmint into my diffuser. My entire house smelled like toothpaste for a week.

Size, Price, and Packaging
I got a sample size. I love samples from AVAT. They have screw off tops instead of those wands that I always seem to spill. Their prices are very, very affordable. So much so, that had I not been recommended this company in Real Aromatherapy Reviews and More 2.0, I would have thought it was fake. They do have GCMS reports, but they are done in house. They also don't offer dates on distillation or GCMS testing, however, John the owner has been in business for a while and developed a good reputation. With that being said, there are some people who don't buy AVAT oils because of it. Some well-respected companies such as Original Swiss Aromatics, Apothecary's Garden, and Snow Lotus Aromatics don't even offer GCMS reports.

Their samples do not have orifice reducers, instead the mouths are smaller so only drops come out. The oil is thin, but the opening is small, so you might have to tap the bottle or shake it a bit to get drops out.

One complaint I have about their packaging in general, is that they don't have a label on the top of the oil. This means that you either have to buy bottle cap stickers or make your own. I know it's a wholesale company so that might be why.  I personally make my own stickers. They don't look pretty, but they do the job.
