Shea Moisture SuperFruit Complex 10-in-1 Renewal System Conditioner Review

My hair is about to the middle of my back. I have 2B, low-porosity, protein-sensitive hair. My hair is medium thickness and low density. I'm of European descent and I have dark virgin hair.

I'm one of those people who loves to get more bang for their buck. When I see a product that can serve many purpose, I want it. Plus, it's got the word super in it, so it's got to be amazing. This conditioner is said to do these 10 things:
  1. to be age defying
  2. nourishing
  3. to be anti-stress
  4. to revive body
  5. to protect your color
  6. to add shine
  7. to hydrate
  8. to strengthen
  9. to help with manageability
  10. to soften
At first glance, it looks amazing. But off the bat, one doesn't apply: the color protection since I don't dye my hair. A few seem to be at odds with each other: softening and strengthening are usually opposites with the former being moisture and the latter protein. I'm not exactly sure what anti-stress even is for my hair unless they're referring to breakage and I would thin that strengthening would cover that.

Anyways, I feel like they have a lot of words being thrown around and that many conditioners do indeed help with many of these issues. I actually had the 10-in-1 masque a while ago and used it on my daughter's hair for about 5-10 minutes while she would take a bath. However, that masque was used up a long time ago and the tub has now been turned into a bath toy to make potions.

I feel like I like Shea Moisture's masques more than I like their conditioners, which to me, is counter-intuitive. Their products seem to be pretty heavy for my hair and I would think that the longer a product was left on my hair, the worse it would be. However, my hair seems to fare much better with the masques (that I leave on for 30 minutes or so) than with the rinse-out conditioners (that I leave in for about 3 minutes).

This is better than the raw shea restorative conditioner, however, it still makes my hair feel stiff. I will try it again once the weather changes.

Ingredients
This has more shea butter than coconut oil. It also has marula oil (sclerocarya bierrea seed).

It' has a handful of extracts such as raspberry (rubus idaeus), goji berry or wolfberry (lycium barbarum), acai (euterpe oleraceo), and guava (psidium guajava).

This does have glycerin (a humectant), which can cause frizz during high and low dews. I'm still trying to figure out humectants, dew points, and how they work together with low porosity hair. It also has a protein in the form of hydrolyzed rice protein.

This issue I have with the label is the mystery behind the essential oil blend. I really wish companies would get in the habit of listing exactly which essential oils, absolutes, oleoresins, or extracts they used. People have allergies or don't like certain scents. I know that scent is proprietary, however, they really need to think of people's needs. I also don't like that they don't use the common name for everything. Take the majority of the extracts they have. They don't list their common names. The same goes for tocopherol, which is Vitamin E. Come on, help people out and list the common names so people don't have to Google everything.

Smell and Texture
This doesn't have a strong scent at all. It smells a bit fruity, which I would expect.

This would be perfect for hair that can handle thicker products.

I'm honestly not really sure what I will use this for because even as a conditioner (which sits on my hair for the least amount of time), it's just too much for my hair. More likely than not I will try it on my daughter's hair and see if it works for her.

Size, Price, and Packaging
I got the 12 oz container and even though my hair really doesn't like it, I've used most of it up. I keep adding more to my hair in hopes that somehow it will work. It was priced pretty fairly. It's in a bottle with a pump top.

Would I Get This Again?
No. My hair really doesn't like this product. It just makes my hair stiff. I know that many people love this product from the rave reviews I've heard. I'm on the fence about how Shea Moisture claims that no ingredients have changed. Perhaps the ingredients are the same but the sources are different. I'm not sure. If you're interested, you can buy it here or from Naturally Curly.
