Appalachian Valley Natural Products Fractionated Coconut Oil Review

Unfortunately, coconut oil does not work well for my skin or body. I wish it did since it's so affordable. I still use it for roll-ons though. My hair is about to the middle of my back. I have 2B, low-porosity, protein-sensitive hair. My hair is medium thickness and low density. I'm of European descent and I have dark virgin hair.

Coconut oil is all the rage. It's supposed to be this magical cure-all for your body, skin, and hair. I'm actually not that much of a fan of regular coconut oil. I find it to be drying to my skin and it makes my hair stuff. Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO) on the other hand is a pretty affordable carrier oil that I don't mind using since I'm usually only using a little at a time, for example, in roller balls.

Ingredients
The FCO I have is from India and I don't have any other information about it. Now they have 100% expressed coconut oil from the Philippines. They don't have info on their website about it, so I'd assume that it is not organic. You can see the average for Liquid Coconut Oil, which is FCO and compare that to the one from AVAT.

Stats about Coconut Oil
Coconut oil has a comedogenic rating of 2-4 out of 5, meaning that some people will break out, but for some reason, many people are able to successfully use coconut oil on their face with no issues. Some people believe that comedogenic ratings don't mean much at all: Colin's Beauty Pages and Babe + Beauty. The shelf life of coconut oil is 2 years. I keep my oils in the fridge so that the temperature is constant and to make the shelf life last as long as possible.

Smell and Texture
Fractionated coconut oil often smells less like coconut oil that regular virgin coconut oil and this one is no exception. It's a clear, thin oil.

Size, Price, and Packaging
At a little over $5 for 8oz, this is a very affordable carrier oil. AVAT's carrier oils come in squat frosted plastic bottles. I know some people prefer glass bottles and if that's the case, then you can decant into your own container. If you're buying in bulk and won't be using it all up that quickly, you should also decant it into smaller bottles since air can cause the oil to go bad faster. I keep this in my fridge and it stays in liquid form.

Would I Get This Again?
Yes, I would. I don't like coconut oil, but FCO is great for using in roller balls as a carrier oil. You can buy it here.

Random Thoughts
Patch test before using. Coconut oil turns into a liquid in warmer weather, so I keep mine in the fridge where it is usually hard as a rock.
