Appalachian Valley Natural Products Sugar and Spice Blend Essential Oil Review

Most of the synergy blends that I have, I bought because of the usage. I don't really like the scent of most of those blends, but I use them anyways since they work. I wanted to buy a blend that just smelled good. Something that would make me happy and relaxed and didn't have some medicinal affect such as helping with coughs or colds. AVAT has a few blends and I found one that I thought I would like based on the description. I wanted to be able to diffuse it and didn't just want a sample size. I took a bit of a risk, since I really don't like pines, and bought the 10ml size of Sugar and Spice. However, it was pretty affordable, so I figured if I didn't like it, I wouldn't be losing that much money.

Unlike Edens Garden and Plant Therapy (Use this link to get $10 off), AVAT does not have a line for kids. This blend is NOT safe for kids.

AVAT doesn't list all the ingredients in it either. They just say that it's got pines, citrus, and cinnamon.

Smell, Use, and Viscosity
This smells amazing. It's very wintery. It smells a bit like apple cider but has a sharp, tart bite to it like a grapefruit. I really don't know exactly what's in it. But here is what AVAT sells in those three categories.
  • Pines: pine needle, pine needle maritime, and pine needle scotch.
  • Citrus: bergamot, clementine, combava petitgrain kaffir lime, grapefruit pink, grapefruit white, lemon, lemon green, lime cold pressed, lime distilled, listea, mandarin green, mandarin red, mandarin yellow, neroli, orange bitter, orange blood, orange sweet from the US, Italy, and Portugal, orange wild, petitgrain biagrade, and tangerine dancy.
  • Cinnamon: cinnamon bark, cinnamon leaf #177, and cinnamon leaf #304
I do not like that there is no exact ingredient list. I think for safety reasons, they should list exactly what is in this blend.

This is a thin oil, however, one thing I've found about AVAT's orifice reducers is that they are smaller compared to the one that Edens Garden and Plant Therapy use. I often have to tap the bottom of the bottle in order to get drops out. If you create an account, you will have access to more sizes. All their milliliter sizes have orifice reducers; their ounces sizes do not. If you're going to buy the ounce bottles, you'll probably want to either use a pipette or decant into smaller bottles. I forgot I had one bottle that was an ounce size and ended up dumping a lot of spearmint into my diffuser. My entire house smelled like toothpaste for a week.
Size, Price, and Packaging
I got a 10ml bottle and it is very, very affordable. So much so, that had I not been recommended this company in Real Aromatherapy Reviews and More 2.0, I would have thought it was fake. They do have GCMS reports, but they are done in house. They also don't offer dates on distillation or GCMS testing, however, John the owner has been in business for a while and developed a good reputation. With that being said, there are some people who don't buy AVAT oils because of it. Some well-respected companies such as Original Swiss Aromatics, Apothecary's Garden, and Snow Lotus Aromatics don't even offer GCMS reports.

The packaging is standard. It comes with an orifice reducer or Euro dropper. The oil is thin, but the orifice is small, so you might have to tap the bottle or shake it a bit to get drops out.

One complaint I have about their packaging in general, is that they don't have a label on the top of the oil. This means that you either have to buy bottle cap stickers or make your own. I know it's a wholesale company so that might be why.  I personally make my own stickers. They don't look pretty, but they do the job.

Would I Get This Again?
Yes, I definitely would get this again! I will get a bigger size next time though. hope they add the ingredient list. I'm curious to know what's in it, but for safety reasons I think they should list all the essential oils that are in their blends. You can buy it here.

Safety
Since I don't know exactly what's in this, it's hard to say what the shelf life would be. Because it's got citrus in it, I would say 1-2 years. I keep all my essential oils in the fridge to help extend their shelf-life.

Make sure to follow proper dilution guidelines. Click on the button that says "download dilution chart". Do not use undiluted. Patch test before using. Check the max dilution on the label. If pregnant, nursing, or under a doctor's care, please contact your caregiver first. Do not use internally unless directed by a licensed aromatherapist or physician. Follow safe essential oil usage; not all people or pets should be exposed to essential oils.
