Life-flo Pure Magnesium Oil Review

I had heard about magnesium oil, but I really didn't know much about it. I figured it would be one of those things that I could research sometime in the future. During my last pregnancy, I would get those painful charley horse muscle spasms and I didn't really know what to do. They were so painful that I'd wake up near tears and my husband really didn't know what to do. I was told to stretch throughout the day and invariably I would once people reminded me, but then I'd forget again. I had off-handedly mentioned it to a friend and she said, I'll send you some magnesium oil along with the baby clothes. She had tried it and didn't use it, so she thought she'd pass it on. Ok, why not. It would be worth a shot. Some people say that you get charley horses due to low magnesium levels.

I had assumed it was going to come in a gel tab form and you were supposed to take it like a vitamin. It came in a spray bottle and it was nearly full.

Is Magnesium Oil Special?
I don't know to be honest. According to Life-flo, it refreshes, rejuvenates, relaxes, and soothes. I've been told it can help you sleep if you have trouble sleeping. You can also use it as deodorant. You can buy it here.

Product Details
It's 100% magnesium chloride brine. That's it. You're supposed to use 4 sprays a day and rub it in. Each spray is approximately 66mg of magnesium. You can also add 2oz to a bath or foot soak for 10-30 minutes. I choose the former since the latter seemed like I'd use it up too quickly.

Trying to Use Magnesium Oil
I'll admit, I used it on my daughter before myself since she had trouble sleeping and my charley horses had gone away. She didn't like it and said it hurt. I really didn't believe her since she is a bit of a wuss. Since she didn't use it, I decided to use it. The first few times I used this, it stung and burned a little. It was not pleasant. I found out that people say it stings because you're magnesium-deficient and to keep using it.

That kind of made sense to me, so I kept using it except instead of using it after a shower when my pores were opened, I used it in the morning. It still stung. I was bought and determined to get some use out of it so decided to use it as deodorant. Surprisingly, it didn't sting (unless I had recently shaved) and it seemed to work amazingly.

Fast forward a few months later, after the baby was born, and I felt a lump in my armpit. I didn't remember having a lumpy armpit and checked in the mirror and it was a large pimple. Not fun. Somehow the magnesium oil had clogged my pores. Still determined to use it, I used regular deodorant on that side and magnesium oil on the other side. After a while, I thought that this was ridiculous and switched to regular (no additives) milk of magnesia for deodorant. It worked really well for me, is affordable, and doesn't sting.

I was still stuck with the bottle of magnesium oil and tried to fob it off on my mom. She didn't want it since she had a bottle she didn't use. My sister had no idea what it was. A few other people were like meh, no thanks. I was really bound and determined to use it all up, so I decided to make magnesium body butter! I thought, yes, finally, I can use it. So I found a recipe, at Wellness Mama and I didn't have any emulsifying wax or beeswax, so simply left it out. I also didn't want to use essential oils in case it didn't turn out. I also didn't have a blender, but I figured, that would be ok! I would just make solid body butter instead of whipped body butter. I mixed everything together and thought, wow, this is great! Finally using up the magnesium oil. I used the body butter and started to notice that it was kind of getting sweaty. That's pretty odd, I'd never had that happen before. Turns out, the magnesium oil did not mix with the coconut oil or shea butter.

Ok, back to square one. I decided to just suck it up and just use 4 sprays a day and see if the stinging would go away. It took a while. Maybe a week or two. Sometimes I would forget to use it and other times I just didn't want to deal with an extra step in the morning. It's a small step, but when you have kids clingy onto you and a baby that wants to sit on your lap when you pee, you take short cuts. It now doesn't sting at all. So whether that means that I'm not magnesium deficient anymore or that I've gotten used to it, I don't know. All I know is that I'm going to use this bottle up.

Would I Get This Again?
Maybe. I'm not really sure if I would buy it again. I would really like to try making the whipped magnesium body butter once I get a mixer. I would also like to use it on my kids, but they'd have to deal with the stinging sensation. I think the body butter would be the better route for them. If this sounds like something you would like to try, you can buy it here.

Size, Price, and Packaging
It's pretty decently priced for an 8 oz spray bottle, especially when you consider you only need to use 4 sprays a day. You could also try the foot soaks or body butter recipes. The packaging is simple. It's a white and blue plastic bottle.

Safety
Patch test before using. The saying, "rubbing salt into a wound" exists for a reason. This is not salt, but it feels a bit like it.
