My Thoughts on Spectrum

I know coconut oil is supposed to be absolutely amazing and is toted is a cure-all for many things. I really didn't get into the coconut oil trend. The reason I ended up with this jar of coconut oil was that I was given it by a friend who was moving. Yea for freebies!

Spectrum has been on the market since 1986 and is currently divided into two product lines: Spectrum culinary and Spectrum essentials. Their products lines are both somehow limited, something that I like because I get overwhelmed with choice.

Since 2005, they have become a subsidiary of the Hain Celestial Group (est. 1993), which is a leader in the natural and organic food and personal care products. Hain is a massive company with products in over 70 countries and has a number of brands such as Rice Dream, Arrowhead Mills, Alba Botanica, Avalon Natural Products, Jason, and Queen Helen, just to name a few. You can find a complete list of all their brands and when they were acquired on their website. The bad news is that in 2013, Hain was one of the companies that was accused of falsely labeling their products as organic according to California law. They reach a settlement in 2015. Here's the source for that info.

Customer Service
I have not had any interactions with their customer service. They are not that active on social media (I checked out Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube). They may simply be because they are primarily relying on word-of-mouth since they have been around for a while and are currently the #1 Natural and Organic Culinary Oil, so with a reputation like that, they don't have to do much advertising.

Products and Prices
Their culinary line has canola oil, coconut oil, mayonnaise, olive oil, organic shortening, sesame oil, specialty oil (all of which are refined so I personally would not use this for facial or body oil), spray oil, and vinegar.

Their essential line has flax seed and chia seed, health and beauty, and nutritional supplements.

Ethics
Their parent company, Hain does focus on sustainability and they aim to change the way people see their food and personal care products. They want to create healthier options at prices you can afford. They have a handful of PDFs available about topics such as their materials, human rights, climate change, water management, and greenhouse gas footprint.

My Reviews
