Many years ago when I had tailbone length hair, I would
massage my scalp every night with oils. I had hair loss after giving
birth and figured black castor oil was a safe, healthy method to use to
try to grow back hair. Honestly speaking, I have my doubts. I've seen
people say it works due to castor oil and its anti-fungal and antiseptic
properties. Black castor oil is supposed to somehow be more potent.
It's not actually black, but they add the ash back into the oil and
that's when the magic is supposed to happen. I'll say this, I do think
that castor oil has beneficial properties to it, however, I also think
that the simple act of massaging your scalp can stimulate blood flow
which in turn stimulates hair growth.

I found out about Jamaican Mango and Lime through Curly Penny
on YouTube. They seem to have two lines: one is their castor oil and the other is
their rasta locks and twists. The former is in amber glass bottles and
the latter is in white plastic bottles with yellow labels and green
writing. Their company is a bit odd. I'm not exactly sure what happened,
but their main site looks like it hasn't been updated in years. I asked on their Facebook page and they told me I could get their products through Universal Beauty. I've also found them on Amazon and at Sally's Beauty Supply.
However, I was at Sally's perusing the aisle and saw they had a sale so I decided to buy one of their black castor oils. The label has tons of bright colors on it so it stands out. It's got funky writing. Let me be absolutely clear here without getting political: I am definitely not in their target niche. I don't have twists, locs, or braids. Their products were in the ethnic section and I come from a white European background even though I look Latin American. I follow the conditioner-only Curly Girl Method. My hair is about to the middle of my back. I have 2B, low-porosity, protein-sensitive hair. My hair is medium thickness and low density and I have dark virgin hair. But, I liked their ingredients and thankfully people aren't limited on which aisles they can shop from.
First of all, let me say that it's hard to find their ingredient list. They're not listed on Universal Beauty or Amazon. Both of those sites only show the front of the product so it's not like you can zoom in and check out the ingredients. Sally's Beauty does have the ingredients, but they don't have many products at all. I find it to be frustrating to not be able to find the information. Secondly, their yellow label line does not have ingredients that I would consider to be healthy for my hair. Mineral oil, beeswax, petroleum, and parfum (which doesn't say phthalate-free) are all common ingredients. Contrast this to their black castor oil line which uses carrier oils and essential oils.

Customer Service
I
have only had one experience with their customer service and that was on Facebook when I asked about buying their products. They pointed me in the direction of Universal Beauty, which was double the price of Sally's. They got back to me quickly and were polite.
Prices Vary Greatly
I've seen them at Sally's for half the price they sell them at Universal Beauty, so shop around.
Polar Opposite Products
They seem to have two lines: their black castor oil line and their hair care line. The picture above is from their black castor oil line and the picture below is from their hair care line. They seem to have two different target niches: The black castor oil is marketed towards hair, scalp, and cuticle care. Their hair care products such as locking gel, locking wax, twist remover, and cool scalp care seem to be marketed towards people who do twists, locs, and braids.First of all, let me say that it's hard to find their ingredient list.
