I've seen people rave about Dead Sea salts. Supposedly they help with skin conditions such as acne and eczema. I have tried a number of different eczema treatments but I'd be very hesitant to try a salt bath when my daughter has eczema flare-ups. It's hard enough trying to get lotion on her. I just feel like rubbing salt into a wound would hurt her. The SF Salt Company says that after visiting the Dead Seas, psoriasis patients find their skin has improved. However, my daughter only has eczema flare-ups every once in a while and I try to bathe her less then. Maybe when she's older, I could try salt treatments on her, but for right now, she's just very scared of everything, including lotion.
I've recently gotten adult acne flare-ups. It's very annoying to get acne at my age. I'm pretty sure it's due to products or habits since it's just on one side of my jaw and neck. Although this blog is dedicated to healthy, natural items, I have been using other hair products simply because I'm trying to use them up. I am going to stop using those products and switch to healthier products and see if that helps. I'm also going to try to wash my pillowcase a few times a week instead of once a week.

I got this for free: I love freebies! I used an Amazon gift card from a friend.
With that being said, I like to make my own sugar and salt scrubs. It's much cheaper and you have more control over the ingredients than the ones you buy in stores. It's so easy as well. If you have kids, they can help out too.
I've also learned that when water gets added to a product, you will most likely need a preservative. Salt is not enough of a preservative if you're splashing water all over your salt scrub. What I do is make a batch of salt/sugar scrub with a carrier oil then stick it in silicone ice cube trays and freeze them. Then I pop them out of the trays and stick them in a container in my freezer. Before I take a shower, I take one or two out and defrost them so they're ready to use when I take a shower. I use up one or two cubes so there's nothing left over and no bacteria can grow on it. I take showers at night, so take out a cube or two when I get home from work. If you take showers in the morning, you could also take the cubes out when you get home at night and just use them in the morning.
Anyways, I helped a friend out and she gave me an Amazon gift card, so I figured I might as well buy somethings that I normally wouldn't buy.

Is Dead Sea Salt Special?
I don't know to be honest. I've seen the information that says it can detoxify your skin and has therapeutic due to the multitude of minerals like potassium, calcium, and magnesium. You can buy it here. I also know that what you put in your body matters as well. This salt, by the way, is not food-grade. It's not like you can just magically slather something on to your skin and eat junk. With that being said, I like to make my own sugar and salt scrubs. Product Details
It's 100% Dead Sea salt, fine grain. They have two choices: fine grain and coarse grain. I wish they would have a medium grain. The fine grain is 0-1.7mm in size and the coarse grain is 1.7-4mm in size. I really wish they had a medium grain to choose from. I can see the coarse grain being using for bath soaks. The fine grain is good for scrubs, but it's a really mild scrub. Perhaps it could be used on delicate skin, but I'd really like something stronger to use as a body scrub and I think the coarse ground would be too coarse.
Would I Get This Again?
I'm not really sure if I would buy it again and that's simply because of the way I use it. For a body scrub, I feel like the fine grain is too fine and the coarse grain would be too course. I would like to try a medium grain salt. However, I know everyone is different. If this sounds like something you would like to try, you can buy it here.
Size, Price, and Packaging
It's pretty decently priced for a 2 pound bag. I haven't used it for bath soaks yet, and I'm not sure I will. I will probably use some of it for foot soaks. The packaging is simple. It's a white and blue plastic bag with a resealable zipper closure on it.
Safety
Patch test before using. The saying, "rubbing salt into a wound" exists for a reason.
