My Thoughts on Uncle Funky's Daughter

I found out about Uncle Funky's Daughter (UFD) through a Facebook group. I liked how they made recommendations for different hair types. Type 2 Wavy is Frizzy Gillespie, Type 3 Curly is Whole Lotta Body, and Type 4 Kinky is Well Put Together. I do feel, however, that the label for type 2 hair is negative while type 3 and 4 are positive. UFD was a husband and wife hair salon that later started making their own products. Unfortunately, they had a bitter divorce and the wife (Tonya Goff) tried to make a similar product (with the brand Hello Curly) to the Curly Magic Curl Stimulator, but in the end, the husband (Ray Reed) won and still has one of their most famous products: UFDCM or Uncle Funky's Daughter Curly Magic. Renee Morris acquired the brand in 2014

They offer sustainable hair care products. They claim to be chemical-free, which of course, they aren't, since everything is a chemical. Slightly chemophobic, but I just think most natural brands are like that.

Founded in 2008, by Tonya Goff and Their first product was the Curly Magic and Extra Butter was soon to follow. They have a handful of hair care products as well as apparel.

They try to make their products as natural as possible, but that doesn't believe that they avoid preservatives completely. Thank goodness. They work with chemists to make sure their products are high-quality and safe.

Parabens work, whether people like them or not, they do the job they are supposed to do and that's inhibit bacteria, yeast, and mold. They are very cheap and have been around for decades. However, there are more options available and companies should explore the choices they have, but do so safely and I'm glad to see that Uncle Funky's Daughter is finding alternatives.

Customer Service
I haven't had any interaction with their customer service.

Affordable Products
Their products are pretty affordable. They don't have many but they recently added a few this year.

These are pretty affordable compared to brands like Innersense and Yarok. This is what I would consider an indie luxury brand. The good thing is that they do have samples and different sizes to choose from. The larger the size, the more money you can save. They also have a sale section and an outlet section.
Ethics
On their values page, they mention how their formulas used responsibly sources raw materials for ingredients. When possible, they try to use materials from renewable plant resources, such as aloe, coconut, and olives as the base for their products. I haven't found anything specific on their website that talks about ethics. They do mention that they use environmentally clean products and use recyclable packaging.

They also talk about how they are against animal testing, use 100% recyclable materials (even cornstarch peanuts as packing material!), and recycle 80% of their waste in their fulfillment center in Houston, Texas.

There are definitely issues with Think Dirty and EWG, but if you're interested, they rank very well there.
