Appalachian Valley Natural Products Orange Sweet US Essential Oil Review

I had a few lemons and limes and wanted a citrus that was sweet, so decided to go for an un pretentious orange essential oil. AVAT has two to choose from: US and Italy. The US one was cheaper by a little bit, so I decided to go with that one. I feel somewhat limited by the essential oils that I buy since the majority of the ones that I have are safe for kids. I debated getting some that weren't safe and finally decided to go ahead and buy them. I figured I could either diffuse them at night while I was working on the other side of the house and the kids were sleeping or use them in a body butter.  In order to get free shipping from AVAT, you need to spend $35, so I added a few things that were not safe for kids. Shipping was going to be about $10. I'd rather pay to get stuff than pay for shipping.

Unlike Edens Garden and Plant Therapy (Use this link to get $10 off), AVAT does not have a line for kids. Orange Sweet is safe for kids.

AVAT has two orange sweets: US and Italy. The US one is a little bit cheaper. AVAT also has orange bitter, orange blood, and orange wild.

Smell, Use, and Viscosity
AVAT says that this one is a bit sweeter and has a milder top note than the others they sell. It smells very much like a freshly peel orange. I can smell a bit of tartness to it and it's mouth-watering.

I do not like that they mention it can be used in the food flavor trade. I realise that there are professionally trained people who do take essential oils internally or tell people to do so, but they are highly trained and the products are regulated. I don't want people to get the idea that they can just use essential oils to flavor their food like they could with extracts like vanilla or almond. Extracts that are meant to be taken internally.

Orange is often used to clear the air and manage stress. It it uplifting and promotes feelings of happiness so can help when people are feeling sad. Topically, it can be used to help those with skin problems, such as acne.

They mention to be careful in the sun due to the fact that it could be phototoxic, however, I found information elsewhere stating that Orange Sweet is not phototoxic. If you are making products for other people, I would state that it does contain citrus oils and they can be phototoxic just to be on the safe side. Some people, like those who have had skin issues or skin cancer, need to be especially careful with the oils they use.

This is a thin oil, however, one thing I've found about AVAT's orifice reducers is that they are smaller compared to the one that Edens Garden and Plant Therapy use. I often have to tap the bottom of the bottle in order to get drops out. If you create an account, you will have access to more sizes. All their milliliter sizes have orifice reducers; their ounces sizes do not. If you're going to buy the ounce bottles, you'll probably want to either use a pipette or decant into smaller bottles. I forgot I had one bottle that was an ounce size and ended up dumping a lot of spearmint into my diffuser. My entire house smelled like toothpaste for a week.

Size, Price, and Packaging
I got a 20ml bottle and it is very, very affordable. So much so, that had I not been recommended this company in Real Aromatherapy Reviews and More 2.0, I would have thought it was fake. They do have GCMS reports, but they are done in house. They also don't offer dates on distillation or GCMS testing, however, John the owner has been in business for a while and developed a good reputation. With that being said, there are some people who don't buy AVAT oils because of it. Some well-respected companies such as Original Swiss Aromatics, Apothecary's Garden, and Snow Lotus Aromatics don't even offer GCMS reports.

The packaging is standard. It comes with an orifice reducer or Euro dropper. The oil is thin, but the orifice is small, so you might have to tap the bottle or shake it a bit to get drops out. On the front is says Orange Sweet and on the side it says Origin: USA.

One complaint I have about their packaging in general, is that they don't have a label on the top of the oil. This means that you either have to buy bottle cap stickers or make your own. I know it's a wholesale company so that might be why.  I personally make my own stickers. They don't look pretty, but they do the job.

Would I Get This Again?
Yes, I probably would. I like the company very much and I like the fact that this smells like freshly peeled oranges. You can buy it here.
